I live in community here in Chicago. I live with 8 very beautiful and bright people in a very beautiful and bright house. One of our pillars as an intentional community is sustainability. This Lenten season we decided to do energy fasts every Sunday after 5pm so that we could be more conscious and intentional about our energy usage and so we could spend some more time together. Last night was our first evening trying this. It was very peaceful walking into a quiet and dark house with candles glowing softly in each room. It made me realize just how exhausting unnatural light can be. Sometimes we need the darkness to see more.
